Site context
The site is a major BMTC bus stop on 7th Cross Rd in NR Colony, Basavanagudi, and the 150m road stretch in front of it from 2nd main to Sannidhi Road. Buses come up from 2nd main (climbing uphill) and turn a sharp right into 7th cross road, often causing holdups for traffic going west to east.
Since the bus stop is designed as a bay that the bus needs to enter from the left, this creates a dangerous conflict with pedestrians at 1st main, as well as those leaving the bus at 1st main. Among the bus users are students and, importantly, those with visual impairment who take the bus to APS College of Commerce and Acharya Patashala Public School. Another point of conflict occurs when the bus emerges onto 7th cross with traffic.
Peak traffic congestion occurs during school opening and closing times, when school buses, private buses, and public buses converge. Lastly, a key challenge that adds to the conflict on 7th cross is the parking and vendor spillover from the Sri Ambabhavani Temple opposite the bus stop, particularly during specific festivals.
Issues
Unsafe entry and exit from the bus stop that create visual blind spots, putting pedestrians, particularly the visually impaired users, in danger.
Congestion caused by the spill over of parking and vendor activities from the Sri Ambabhavani Temple side.

Priority Interventions
Redesign the road geometry and traffic movement for safer entry of vehicles from 2nd main into 7th cross, accounting for topography challenges and the oncoming traffic on 7th cross.
Redesign the bus bay to address pedestrian movement conflicts.
Ensure obstruction-free, ramped, and universally accessible footpath and connection with bus stop till the school/colleges nearby.
Create a vendor and parking management plan for the street.
Create wayfinding and signage systems for easy navigation for pedestrians.
