Site context

The nominated site is an approximately  350m x 16m infrastructure buffer space around a pipeline. To the north, the space opens onto Marenahalli road, and to the south is a part of a larger 500m-long vacant land around the pipeline. The site is vacant, overgrown with weeds, and isolated in terms of access, as the surrounding buildings currently face outwards (away from the site) and have walls blocking access to this potential public space.

Issues

Priority Interventions

  1. Remove the weeds and level the ground to create a green lung for the neighbourhood that all age groups can enjoy:  Sports and play spaces for children and adults, Open-air gyms, Walking/jogging tracks, Seating spaces

  2. Remove the walls to create access to the public space and, in turn, connect the cul-de-sacs to create shortcuts (reducing distance by 1km) to the metro station for walkers and cyclists; thus potentially reducing trips by private vehicles.

  3. Remove all encroachments to the public space and define the private and public boundaries.

  4. The public space can also be further connected to Jaynagar’s Lakshman Rao Boulevard Rose Garden Park.
