Jayamahal: Waste Point to Forest

Area / Length:

732 sqm

Main access road:

JayaMahal Main Road

Nominee:

Green Warriors

Budget

₹ 10-50 lakhs

Priority Interventions

  • Shift the transfer point to a more suitable location.

  • Plant a mini forest to restore walkability and prevent waste or fire from reaching the road below.

Site context

The site was empty until late 2019, when it became a transfer point. MLA Rizwan mentioned a space to shift the transfer point to a different location 3 - 4 years ago, but it has not been materialised so far.

Issues

  • Waste tipping often spills onto the road, spreading garbage across the area, making it dirty and unhygienic.

  • Garbage is dumped at the site and sometimes set on fire, creating hazards for vehicles below.

  • Waste attracts dogs and other animals.

  • Walking is also dangerous and uninviting due to high vehicle speeds, the lack of footpaths, poor lighting, garbage, and dogs.
