Priority Interventions
Establish a "Craft Heritage Corridor" featuring terracotta-themed seating, storytelling walls, and inclusive, tactile footpaths.
Integrate gender-segregated toilets and community zones to restore artisanal dignity and ensure safe, accessible public use.
Site context
The site is culturally significant edge of Pottery Town near the railway track. It serves as a vital production zone for Bengaluru’s traditional potter community. It is a unique artisanal hub where traditional kilns and pottery staging meet hard urban infrastructure. The space is important to the neighbourhood because it represents the legacy of generations of potters who have shaped the area's identity.
Issues
Despite its heritage, the site is a neglected back-of-house space plagued by poor lighting, garbage dumping, and hazardous walking conditions. The lack of basic sanitation and seating undermines the dignity of artisans. Fragmented infrastructure and a lack of clear sightlines make the area feel unsafe for women, children, and seniors, preventing the space from becoming a true community asset.
