Malleshwaram Conservancy Lane Activation

Area / Length:

3500 m

Main access road:

13th Cross Road

Nominee:

Studio Yatra Architects

Budget

< 10 lakhs

Priority Interventions

Transform the lanes into an organized "Micro-Business & Art Corridor." Integrate modular vending zones for local craft and food, restore heritage murals, and create dedicated spaces for community gatherings and cultural exchange.

Site context

The historic conservancy lanes of Malleswaram are unique secondary arteries known for their rich mural art and heritage character. They represent a hidden urban layer that has the potential to become a vibrant public-used space.

Issues

These lanes are currently fading into obscurity as "forgotten spaces," with murals deteriorating and footfall declining. Following commercial shifts elsewhere in the city, local micro-entrepreneurs, artists, and street vendors lack dignified spaces to operate, leading to a loss of the neighbourhood's vibrant street economy and inclusive social fabric.
