Restoring Hennur Main Road Forest

Area / Length:

7119 sqm

Main access road:

Hennur Junction, Hennur Main Rd, Meganahalli, Kalyan Nagar

Nominee:

ESAF Foundation

Budget

₹ 10-50 lakhs

Priority Interventions

This project restores the neglected park into a protected, biodiversity-rich green space by removing waste and improving soil health. Existing native trees will be preserved alongside new butterfly- and bird-friendly planting. The design ensures universal accessibility for all ages and abilities, facilitating safe walking and cycling. Connectivity is enhanced through traffic-calming measures and pedestrian crossings on Hennur Main Road, while a redesigned bus stop integrates the site into the public transport network.

Site context

Located along Hennur Main Road near Hennur Junction, this site is a narrow park stretch approximately 500 metres long and 50 metres wide. It lies between Outer Ring Road and the service road. The stretch is surrounded by several educational institutions (Chris Canadian Degree College, Indo-Asian Girls PU College), residential areas, and commercial activity zones, but currently lacks safe, inviting access.

Issues

Originally fenced and developed by BBMP with seating, the area is now neglected, with broken infrastructure, dumped waste, and signs of anti-social activity.
