Importance of the site

This site is located at a crucial public junction in Jayanagar and currently lacks inclusive infrastructure for the many informal workers who rely on it — including street vendors, domestic workers, and construction laborers. Despite being highly active, it is underutilized in terms of community facilities, shade, sanitation, and safety. Developing this space is important to support the livelihood and dignity of these everyday users, while also activating it as a vibrant and accessible urban node for the entire neighbourhood.

Proposed idea / vision:

The vision is to transform this edge-of-market site into a modular, climate-sensitive urban ecosystem that supports informal workers and community life. The proposal includes: Shaded, well-organized vendor stalls Resting and sleeping areas for domestic and construction workers Dining space, sanitation, and solar-powered facilities A central public plaza for gathering, play, skill workshops, and daily use Passive cooling strategies, green buffers, and inclusive seating This design promotes inclusion, economic livelihood, and public health by integrating overlooked users into the public realm with dignity. It also adds environmental value through low-impact materials, bioswales, and landscape buffers — turning a neglected edge into a thriving, replicable urban model for equitable development.
