Importance of the site

It used be a bustling and wide road with a railway gate. Due to an underpass construction 10 meters from railway gate, the traffic is diverted and the old road lies unused with a dead end on either side. Garbage and debris gets dumped here. Vehicles are abandoned here. Worst part is, underpass doesn't have provision for footpath, so pedestrians walk through the garbage and risk their lives by crossing through an unmanned railway track. This connects a large residential area with JP Park and the adjacent market. Hundreds of people risk their lives through the mess in the morning and evenings. During monsoon, the debris gets slushy and it stinks. Currently, only those with vehicles are able to access the park on the other side. Many senior citizens who cannot climb a fence and walk on the tracks have given up going to the park in the evenings which has further worsened their health.

Proposed idea / vision:

The area can be cleared, planted with greenery which will avoid dumping of garbage and debris which is a health hazard. Set up benches for the public to rest with dignity to make the area inclusive to pedestrians and senior citizens. Open air exercise equipment can be set up to promote a healthy lifestyle. A foot over bridge can be used to connect both the sides to provide safe passage to pedestrians on either sides which makes the area inclusive for the pedestrians. The space also has a BMTC bus stand which has collapsed , which could be rennovated. Currently, only those with vehicles are able to access the park on the other side. Many senior citizens who cannot climb a fence and walk on the tracks have given up going to the park in the evenings which has further worsened their health. On a whole, this can serve as a proper example on correct utilsation of a public space. Benches, bus stand, footpaths and exercising equipment. And completion of this can potentially avoid pedestrian deaths. Hundreds of people cross the unguarded railway track which is busy due to it being the first railway crossing from Yeshwanthpur Jn in this direction.
