Importance of the site

The site is situated in a bustling commercial area but is currently misused as a garbage dumping spot, which not only hampers the visual and environmental quality of the surroundings but also underutilizes a space with high potential. Despite heavy footfall from nearby shops, offices, and commuters, there is a noticeable lack of accessible tea stalls or social pause points in the vicinity. The absence of such informal gathering spaces limits opportunities for social interaction and breaks during the workday

Proposed idea / vision:

Recognizing this gap, the proposal aims to transform the neglected site into a vibrant tea stall space featuring informal katte-style seating that resonates with the local culture. The design incorporates a semi-open, porous structure with pergolas to create a shaded yet breathable environment. Openings on both sides—from BB Road and the adjacent service road—allow seamless pedestrian flow. Utilizing the natural contour of the land, a central stepped and ramped zone is introduced to provide universal access, while also acting as a social core connecting both tea stalls. This reimagined space will serve as an inviting urban pause point, blending functionality with community engagement.
