Importance of the site

This vacant BBMP parcel has become an informal waste-dumping site, creating health hazards, foul odors, and visual blight in a densely built neighbourhood. Located immediately next to a school Shree Sharada Vidyalaya and the Public Library, the site sits unused despite serving hundreds of students, readers, and nearby residents daily. Transforming it will reclaim lost public land, eliminate the dumping ground, and provide much-needed green relief in this concrete-dominated area of Vinayaka Block, Amruthnagar.

Proposed idea / vision:

We propose to convert the 40 m × 70 m plot into a Tree Park (Urban Mini-Forest) featuring: 1. Dense native tree grove (Neem, Jamun, Rain Tree) planted in clusters to create shaded “rooms” for relaxation and reading. 2. Meandering stone pathways giving gentle curves through the grove, with stone benches and low seating walls placed at restful intervals. 3. Central gathering plaza beneath the largest Rain Tree, with a circular stone platform and built-in seating around its base for community events, storytelling, and informal gatherings. 4. Rain-garden swales along the perimeter to capture runoff, recharge groundwater, and reduce local flooding during monsoon. 5. Environmental education signage highlighting tree species, biodiversity, and local water-cycle benefits—inviting library patrons and neighbours to learn about urban ecology. 6. LED solar-powered bollard lights to ensure safe evening access for residents and library users. 7. Low native-hedge boundary to discourage dumping while preserving openness and safety for users of all ages. Potential impacts include: 1. Inclusion: A free, accessible green space for people of all ages and abilities. 2. Public health: Cleaner air, cooler microclimate, and a calm outdoor environment for reading, socializing, and light exercise. 3. Environment: Boosted urban biodiversity, improved stormwater management, and ongoing carbon sequestration. 4. Safety: Clear sightlines, defined walkways, lighting, and low fencing to deter misuse and create a secure public realm.
