Importance of the site
This street has a great potential to be developed into a beautiful place for families to hangout and for getting together with friends in lively informal settings, sharing savouries. At present it is a desolate stretch of street without any shops, residences or offices and the maintenance has been ignored always. It has turned into a stinking eyesore with motorists and pedestrians throwing garbage packets on the go and uncultured men relieving themselves. There are a couple of street food vendors here serving unhygienic food in the dark, littering and dirtying, making the place infested with rats and stray dogs. At dusk and beyond, the place is prone to crimes as the place is deserted.
This place can become a great asset to the local community and for the visitors to Domlur layout also. As of now Domlur doesn’t have a place that serves these social requirements.
Proposed idea / vision:
The proposal is for developing that stretch of the Kempegowda Service Road between the Viswesvaraya Kendriya Bhawan and the 7 th Cross in Domlur. On one side of the road, we have the CPWD quarters compound wall all along. On the other side is the unutilised vacant BBMP land which is sandwiched between the Kempegowda Service Road and the Old Airport Road. A decorative water fountain is being installed by BBMP at one end of this narrow strip of land.
Our suggestion is to develop this street into a food street. Small food vending shops can be built on the vacant BBMP land beside the street. A few gift shops can also be thrown in, thus creating an ambience for a pleasant pastime for families and friends in the evenings.
The benefits –
1) The street will get a facelift with brightly lit eateries and cheerful crowd that will be a treat to our eyes.
2) Enhances safety and mitigates chances of crime.
3) Garbage dumping and urinations will stop making the place clean without rat and stray dog menace.
4) The new water fountain under installation nearby will add to the ambience.
5) The rent from the shops will be a source of revenue for the BBMP.
