Importance of the site
1. This is the gateway to the neighborhood of Kasturi nagar. However, large infrastructure lines like flyover and metro lines area have encroached public parks and are creating islands of inaccessible and unsafe spaces.
2. It is an important junction for movement in and out of the neighborhood as well for traffic between ORR and Indira nagar. Also, currently, through traffic is redirected through the neighborhood, this needs to be streamlined and appropriately channelized.
3. The high volume of traffic and design of the junctions makes it unsafe for pedestrians. There is an opportunity to connect the neighborhood to the lake through this junction.
Proposed idea / vision:
The vision is to redevelop this areas as a gateway of Kasturi nagar by reclaiming the encroached spaces to become accessible public space for community activities. The junction can be designed for improved pedestrian access to the lake and arterial roads like ORR and OMR, by channelizing inbound, outbound and by pass traffic with priority for pedestrian safety.
