Importance of the site

Developing this space is crucial because it addresses multiple pressing issues faced by the KHB community. Currently, the land is underutilized, poorly maintained, and perceived as unsafe and unhygienic. This creates a negative impact on the surrounding neighborhood, especially since the area lacks dedicated recreational spaces or public amenities. By transforming this edge condition, we can unlock the potential of this large land parcel to serve the community in meaningful ways — as a well-organized parking area to decongest residential streets, as a green buffer with jogging or walking tracks for healthy living, and as a safe and vibrant recreational zone for children and families. This development would not only improve public safety and sanitation but also enhance the overall quality of life, foster community engagement, and create a model for sustainable neighborhood transformation. Such a project would demonstrate how reclaiming and repurposing neglected urban edges can lead to long-lasting benefits for residents and inspire similar initiatives elsewhere.

Proposed idea / vision:

Vision to Develop the Railway Edge into a Thriving Neighbourhood Public Space – KHB Layout of Kengeri Satellite town. My vision for this space is to transform the currently neglected edge along the railway track into a vibrant, safe, and inclusive public space that caters to the everyday needs of the KHB community. This large land parcel, with its strategic location, holds immense potential to become a well-used and meaningful urban edge. Key ideas for its transformation include: Organized Parking Bays: Allocating part of the site for aligned, well-marked parking to serve the entire layout. This will help decongest internal residential streets and allow them to become safer, more walkable zones for residents. Jogging and Walking Tracks: Introducing a continuous, shaded jogging/walking loop lined with trees and benches, encouraging health and fitness among all age groups. Recreation & Play Zones: Creating small recreational pockets with seating areas, open-air gyms, and safe play areas for children – something currently missing in the neighbourhood. Green Landscape Buffers: Developing landscaped buffers with native plants along the railway edge to reduce noise, dust, and improve the visual quality of the environment. Community Spaces: Integrating open plazas or gathering zones where weekend markets, cultural events, or community meetings can take place, fostering social interaction and local engagement. Lighting & Safety: Ensuring adequate lighting, clear visibility, and passive surveillance through design to make the area feel safe and inviting even during evening hours. This vision is rooted in creating a people-centered space that promotes health, safety, community bonding, and environmental sustainability. If provided the opportunity, I would be glad to lead the efforts in collaboration with local stakeholders to co-create a design that reflects the aspirations of the community and enhances our everyday urban experience.
