Restoring Mysore Road Walkway

Area / Length:

600 m

Main access road:

Mysore Road, 1st Main Road

Nominee

Nisarga Badavaneya Nivasigala Kshemabhivruvdhi Sangha

Budget

Priority Interventions

  • Clear definition of the road geometry with kerb edges. Creation of a wide footpath, on at least one side of the road (preferably the railway side), along with street lights.

  • Installation of CCTV cameras at strategic locations.

  • Creation of a visible garbage collection point near 1 st cross.

Site context

The site is a 400m road stretch in the forest, Layout from ISI rear exit to 1st cross road, with a reserve forest on one side and the railway buffer on the other. A connector to Mysore Road with first- and last-mile access to the bus and metro networks. Heavily used by pedestrians working in nearby garment factories, walkers, and public transport commuters

Issues

  • Fast-paced movement of vehicles, including school buses, as there are no other roads intersecting this stretch.

  • No footpaths on either side of the road, and discontinuous streetlights, make it dangerous to walk in daylight and at night.

  • Garbage dumping and burning are rampant along the stretch.
