Safer Dasarahalli Main Road Junction

Area / Length:

1680 sqm

Main access road:

Dasarahalli Main road

Nominee

Ar Sumanth Shenoy

Budget

₹ 1 - 5 Crore

Priority Interventions

  • Relocate the tipping point and sanitation vehicles, or establish a designated, secure area for waste and sanitation vehicles, including a waste transfer point.

  • Reconstruct and widen the existing footpath to accommodate high pedestrian traffic, and add street lighting and access ramps.

  • Redesign the junction to streamline traffic flow and improve pedestrian crossings, utilising all available space for footpaths and public areas.

  • Designate vending zones, plant trees, and create social spaces within the public realm to enhance pedestrian areas.

Site context

The junction is at the intersection of Dasarahalli Main Road and Amruth Nagar Main Road. It experiences heavy traffic due to its proximity to Bellary Road (400 meters away) and is surrounded by large apartment complexes and offices. To the south, a large government site in front of Brigade Triumph serves as a tipping point for waste vehicles and a parking area for sanitation trucks. Adjacent to this site are a bus stop and a drinking water facility.

Issues

  • The west and north sides of the junction are occupied by vendors, limiting residents' access.

  • The southern side of the junction is unsanitary, with waste being tipped onto the footpath and road. This forces pedestrians to avoid the area or walk in traffic. A persistent sewage odour is present, and residents suspect sanitation trucks are discharging sewage into roadside drains.

  • There is no pedestrian safety infrastructure to support safe crossings, creating significant risks for children, older adults, and people with disabilities.

  • The existing bus bay is underutilised and often blocked by parked vehicles. .
