Priority Interventions
The redevelopment strategy focuses on four key interventions: first, a railway overhead pedestrian bridge with lifts for universal accessibility, second, a continuous footpath network connecting Swatantra Palya to the bridge and to Mantri Square junction. Third, reclaiming open dumping grounds to create play areas and social amenities for low-income housing. Finally, space under the flyover and road edges will be reorganised into designated transit stops, regulated hawker zones, and drop-off points.
Site context
The site is the vital path between the railway track and the Mantri Square Sampige metro station, connecting Swatantra Palya and Malleswaram.By bridging these two residential and commercial zones, the path facilitates seamless multi-modal connectivity. Enhancing this pedestrian route would significantly improve daily commutes for residents navigating between the station and surrounding areas.
Issues
There is no overpass, forcing people to cross railway tracks unsafely. The path is steep, muddy, littered with garbage, and has no street lights. A nearby parking lot is used for dumping old cars and waste.
