  • Upgrade footpaths to meet Tender SURE standards, ensuring a continuous and universally accessible design. 

  • Plant native vegetation in green verges and create tree pits to protect existing trees. 

  • Install street lighting and benches at regular intervals along the route. 

  • Provide pedestrian crossings and traffic calming measures at key junctions, including Milton Road, Davis Road, North Road, 2nd Cross Road, and 6th Cross Road. 

  • Create designated parking bays.

Site context

The site comprises a 1 km stretch of Wheeler Road Extension in Cooke Town. It serves as the main access route for the neighbourhood and includes several important amenities.

Issues

  • This stretch faces several persistent challenges: inadequate street lighting, safety concerns, broken and uneven footpaths, encroached footpaths for parking vehicles and blackspots.

  • Excessive vehicle speeds also create unsafe conditions for pedestrians walking or crossing the road.
