Priority Interventions

This project redesigns the street into a pedestrian-friendly, climate-resilient corridor that supports neighborhood identity.

  • Key interventions include - widening footpaths for universal accessibility, installing bus shelters, and planting avenue trees with percolation pits for drainage.

  • Integratation of essential facilities like public toilets and rest zones for municipal and gig workers, alongside organized vending and waste management.

  • Critical safety measures include SRTS-compliant school zones for Hegde Nagar Public School and Rio, and robust pedestrian crossings at major Thanisandra Main Road junctions to ensure safety.

Site context

A 700m stretch of Thanisandra Main Road, which is commercializing and has two schools. The road is dominated by heavy traffic.

Issues

The footpath was left undeveloped after recent road and drain work. The public space is haphazardly encroached by parked vehicles and shop extensions, and there is little to no shade.
