Area / Length:

10000 sqm

Main access road:

10th Main Road, Laxmidevi Nagar

Nominee

Slum Jagatthu Trust

Voids Foundation

Budget

₹ 1 - 5 Crore

Priority Interventions

Reimagine the access paths as public space addressing basic drainage infrastructure, social spaces, flood management measures, etc. Install retaining walls to stop erosion of the hill side along the access road, leading to outer ring road. Add spaces for children's play and community gathering.

Site context

This site is the main access path in the densely populated Lakshmi Devi Nagar Slum Board Quarters. The majority of the access path is part of the rajakaluve buffer area that runs along the length of the housing which is not just a movement spine but also acts as a spillover for community activity. This access pathway is being tarred with the support of the MLA.

Issues

  • Chronic flooding during monsoons and collapsing infrastructure pose direct threats to life and property.

  •  The inaccessible topography prevents emergency services, such as ambulances, from reaching residents during medical crises.

  • Lack of formal drainage and maintenance has led to persistent garbage dumping, transforming the shared commons into a disaster-prone health hazard and crime hotspot.
