Priority Interventions

Create a contemporary urban plaza, in memory of the former village square, that respects the site's historicity and addresses the dense traffic flow through the area. Streamline the carriageway to clearly delineate the public realm Relocate the bus stand and auto stand to reduce pedestrian-vehicular conflict. Clear the encroachment and obstructions by shops and vendors to make the footpaths usable and visibalise the park entrance. Install information and navigation signage to nearby landmarks Create seating spaces

Site context

The 100m Hulimavu Lake Road Junction connects Cave Temple and Begur-Hulimavu roads. Centered around a 1,000-year-old temple, it hosts a bus stop and auto-stand. This area was originally part of a traditional village square and now includes 5 temples, 4 schools and Hullimavu lake in the immediate vicinity of the junction. High-speed, high-traffic corridor used by residents to access the lake.

Issues

●Poorly designed carriageways and chaotic traffic flows result in frequent vehicle and pedestrian accidents.

●Pedestrians lack safe crossings, while shop spillages and vendor encroachments obstruct footpaths.

●A bus stop located on a road island forces mid-junction boarding, creating dangerous blind spots for traffic and unsafe conditions for commuters.
