Site context

The site is a defunct segment of Tank Bund Road that historically linked dense residential clusters to the local market and JP Park. Since traffic was diverted to a nearby underpass, this isolated road has become a severed urban link, currently bypassed by vehicular flow but essential for local footfall.

Issues

●The newly constructed underpass lacks pedestrian facilities, forcing hundreds of residents and senior citizens to hazardously cross unmanned, active railway tracks daily to reach essential public amenities. ●Lack of surveillance and active use has turned this abandoned stretch into a hazardous dumping ground for construction debris and a graveyard for abandoned vehicles, further compromising neighborhood security.

Priority Interventions

●Reclaim the abandoned road as a landscaped pedestrian plaza with public seating and exercise equipment. ●Install a safe Foot-Over-Bridge and renovated BMTC bus stand.
