Priority Interventions
Assess all residual areas under the flyover and junction, and allocate them to mobility or public spaces. ●Create designated parking zones. ●Redevelop the junction with a focus on pedestrian and cyclist safety. ●Designate and strategically design remaining areas, integrating public amenities such as toilets with spaces for public exhibitions and art. ●Integrate elements of Karnataka's heritage into the design.
Site context
Doddankeundi junction is a busy intersection with significant vehicular, pedestrian, and cycling traffic. The under-flyover space is mostly vacant, with occasional garbage accumulation. Parking available (between Pillar 10-14) in a few segments; a working public toilet; a cabin for pourakarmikas; two disused bus stops; and some landscaped areas. DULT has already created a proposal to redesign the junction, which is yet to be implemented.
Issues
●This is a very large site (600m x 6m stretch) in a highly trafficked, dense junction that is currently underused. ●There is no pedestrian safety infrastructure, and poor non-motorised transit infrastructure across the junction. ●Garbage dumping is taking place in a few spots. ●The entire area is poorly lit.
