Priority Interventions
Implement Safe Routes to School guidelines along the entire stretch from Gear School Road to the Panathur Road junction.
Introduce traffic calming measures, mid-block crossings, and signage to warn motorists of pedestrian activity.
Consider developing medians with refuge islands to enhance pedestrian safety.
Develop wider, universally accessible footpaths with railings to improve walkability and reduce risk points.
Enforcement of lower speed limits as per IRC 32 guidelines.
Designate clear drop-off and pick-up zones.
Site context
The Government Higher Primary School in Panathur has been nominated for school-area improvement. Three additional schools are situated within a few hundred metres to the east and west. Kadubeesanahalli Road, a major corridor connecting to the Outer Ring Road, is currently being white-topped to address persistent pothole issues. Many students at the government school walk to school either independently or accompanied by a guardian.
Issues
The footpaths along the side access roads are broken at multiple locations.
The footpath along Kadubeesanahalli Road is currently under development.
Absence of mid-block pedestrian crossings, which is particularly dangerous given high-speed traffic and frequent movement of heavy trucks and buses
