Site context
The site includes a junction and an adjacent vacant parcel at the intersection of 7th Cross Road and Dr. Vishnuvardhan Road is a major arterial carrying heavy through-traffic and connecting the neighbourhood to NICE Road.
Issues
● A steep gradient and sharp curve on Dr. Vishnuvardhan Road create a blind approach, encouraging vehicles to accelerate into the junction ● Vehicles waiting to turn right into 7th Cross at the unsignalised junction cause congestion and unsafe pedestrian conditions ● A service road (21st Cross) also meets at this junction ● The vacant site marks a transition between high-speed traffic and the residential neighbourhood
Priority Interventions
● Redesign the junction to account for intra- and inter-neighbourhood traffic while prioritising pedestrian safety ● Use the vacant site to potentially widen the carriageway, separate traffic movements, slow vehicle speeds, and provide pedestrian refuge and social space ● Introduce pedestrian crossings, continuous footpaths, and traffic calming measures to address speeding and visibility challenges
