Priority Interventions
Colony Road as a boulevard, with continuous levelled footpaths, following tender sure guidelines, with designated parking zones Complete redevelopment of the junction, accounting for the impact of the sante on vehicular and pedestrian movement. Development of the lake and rajakaluve edge to create social spaces and reclaim the lake view, and mitigate against flooding.
Site context
The site is an 800m stretch of Ranka Colony Road that connects Madiwala Lake to Bannerghata Road and the Dr B. R. Ambedkar Road junction. It has large apartment complexes and an open space for weekly santes near the junction.
Issues
Footpaths are present near the apartments and absent near the sante. Where present, footpaths are wide and tree-lined, but ineffective as they are constantly interrupted by the deep approach ramps of the apartments. This forces everyone to walk on the road. The sante area is lined with trucks and vans and marked with spots of construction debris. The apartment area is congested with private vehicles and cabs. There is no safe pedestrian crossing at the junction, and it is known to be a major flooding hotspot.
