Area / Length:

1234 m

Main access road:

Yelahanka Bellary Road flyover service road

Nominee

Centre for Green Building Materials and Technology

Budget

₹ 1 - 5 Crore

Priority Interventions

  • Create recreational and cultural gathering spaces that serve local residents.

  • Create walking paths lined with bamboo and native plants.

  • Create a community gathering space and children’s play area, with pop-up craft and artisan markets, etc.

  • Introduce supporting amenities such as EV Charging Stations, parking, drinking water, and public toilets.

Site context

The site is large, continuous, 300-400m long and 30-35m wide, under the flyover space on Bellary Road near Jakkur Aerodrome. It is located near the Jakkur Aerodrome. It is surrounded by educational institutions such as Vidyanivas Pre-University College, gated communities like Legacy Cirocco and Viswa Prakruthi Green Woods, and car showrooms, making it a very visible public corridor. The site is currently completely unutilised except for public art on the flyover pillars.

Issues

A typical casualty of flyover developments is the loss of roadside trees, amenities, and connections, as is the case here. Flyovers create a socially hostile environment that prioritises high-speed traffic, disrupting the area's social fabric.
