  3. Provide traffic management measures such as zebra crossing, signages (two types- one is referring to the historic buildings such as temple, religious institutions and other one is for people to walk, parking etc.),

  4.  Install lightings and illuminations to address the activities and specific space.

Site context

The site is the 100 m long Humimavu Lake road Junction, consisting of the 2 intersections, one at Cave Temple Road and another at Begur Hulimavu. The Junction includes a bus stop and an auto-stand at the road island informally created around the Shri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple, known to be a 1000-year-old Ram Temple. This area was originally part of a traditional village square and now includes 5 temples, 4 schools and Hullimavu lake in the immediate vicinity of the junction. This is a high-traffic, high-speed corridor and is also used by residents as an access road to walk to the lake.

Issues

  • Poorly designed carriageways and chaotic traffic flow lead to frequent accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians.

  • Pedestrians lack safe crossings, while shop spillages and vendor encroachments obstruct footpaths.

  • A bus stop located on a road island forces mid-junction boarding, creating dangerous blind spots for traffic and unsafe conditions for commuters.
