Priority Interventions
This project optimises accessibility around the lake through the following interventions:
Relocating Gate 2 (on Annaswamy Mudaliar Rd, opposite RBANM gate) closer to the gazebo or another gate closer to Ajanta Road intersection away from narrow bottlenecks and installing bollards to prevent illegal parking.
Reclaiming underutilised Rajakaluve buffer space for dedicated cycle and two-wheeler parking, while establishing a continuous, standardised footpath along the lake’s perimeter.
Key maintenance measures include screening the men's toilet and banning pigeon feeding to protect the structural integrity of footpaths from rodent damage.
Together, these steps prioritise pedestrian safety, streamline traffic, and revitalise the lake's edge for community use.
Site context
The site encompasses the entire periphery of Ulsoor Lake, including its four primary entrance points; two on the Madras Sappers (East) side and two on the Annaswamy Mudaliar Rd (West)
Issues
Aside from the main entry at the intersection of Annaswamy Mudaliar Rd, the other three do not have accessible entries or clear parking arrangements, leading to haphazard parking around the park and on the footpath. In addition, the footpath around the lake is also broken and discontinuous.
