Improving accessibility of Ulsoor Lake
Area / Length:
2420 m
Main access road:
Annaswamy Mudaliar Road
Nominee:
Balan and Nambisan Architects
Partner:
Beary s Acacia Lakeview, Ulsoor
Priority Interventions
Shift entrance of gate 2 (on Annaswamy Mudaliar Rd, opposite RBANM gate) closer to the gazebo or another gate closer to Ajanta Road intersection, since it is currently in the area with the narrowest road and footpath width Put bollards at the entrances to disallow parking on the footpath Reclaim space from rajakaluve buffer to create 2-wheeler parking and cycle parking Create continuous and standardized footpath all along the periphery of the lake Create a visual barrier to block inside view of men’s toilet Disallow feeding of pigeons since feed attracts rats which break the footpath near RBANM entrance
Site context
The site encompasses the entire periphery of Ulsoor Lake, including its four primary entrance points; two on the Madras Sappers (East) side and two on the Annaswamy Mudaliar Rd (West)
Issues
Aside from the main entry at the intersection of Annaswamy Mudaliar Rd, the other three do not have accessible entries or clear parking arrangements, leading to haphazard parking around the park and on the footpath. In addition, the footpath around the lake is also broken and discontinuous.
