Priority Interventions
Create a holding space for garbage collected from shops and dustbins till night time collection. Alternatively, can the waste collection be planned twice in a day, thus reducing the capacity of space required to store garbage? Create a rest zone with toilet, seating and other amenities for pourakarmikas.
Site context
‘Lets be the Change’ in collaboration with ‘Unbox Bengaluru’ and BSWML is leading efforts towards behavioral change and awareness on waste management to maintain clean streets. The goal is to create a replicable model for waste management for commercial streets. ‘Let’s be the change’ has also introduced dustbins that are routinely cleaned to reduce waste on the street. This is to reduce street littering and support shops to dump garbage bags in them prior to night collection.
Issues
There is no holding space for garbage picked up from dust bins through the day time. A kasa kiosk is likely not be enough due to high volumes. There are also no rest areas for pourakarmikas, the backbone to maintaining clean streets.
