Priority Interventions
The core area of intervention is the diagonal street between 5th and 17th cross, along Malleshwara Public Park, connecting the 3 pocket open spaces.
Key interventions across all sites:
Redesign sitting and gathering spaces to enhance inclusivity and welcome all residents.
Add benches, tables, and street lights.
Remove railings and parking from the Malleswara public entrance and around open spaces.
Enhance aesthetics by adding landscaping, gardens, and trees.
Site context
The site is the diagonal street spanning the 5th to 17th Cross in Malleshwara, specifically the areas flanking the Malleshwara Public Park. This leisure street encompasses three vital pocket open spaces, serving as a critical pedestrian and social link within this historic, dense residential and commercial neighborhood.
Issues
The open space and sitting area in front of Malleswara Public Park is primarily used by men.
The railing and parked cars create a sense of exclusion.
Fences block public access to the open spaces above the park. Authorities will likely fence the area below in the future as well.
