ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳನ್ನು ಪುನರುಜ್ಜೀವಿತಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು
Priority Interventions
The market street is already well developed, but thoughtful improvements can significantly enhance the ease of movement for pedestrians and vehicles. Exploration of the creation of parking bays on both sides of the road, that can accommodate 2 and 4 wheelers, such that the in-between residual areas can be used for landscaping and seating, etc. Removal of all shop spillovers and advertisements on the footpath. Introduction of carefully placed crossings, kerb extensions, and pedestrian signals to negotiate level differences.
Site context
The site is at 21st Main Road, a market street lined with shops and eateries. It faces the entrance of the BDA complex. The site also includes two T-junctions - Master Hirannaiah Road and 22nd Cross Road.
Issues
No pedestrian crossings or signals at the junctions, and the railing often blocks the pedestrian path across the road. Additionally the level difference due to undulating terrain along with speeding traffic make it unsafe for people with physical disabilities. The footpaths are encroached upon by shop spillover. While on the road, despite designated parking bays on one side, haphazard parking remains common on the other.
