Dinnur Road is a mixed-use street with market areas and several schools opening in it. It is also a key bus route for the neighbourhood and will be the main connector to the metro station
Issues
Pedestrians are forced to hurriedly zigzag through traffic at junctions due to the absence of crossings and signalisation.
There are also no bus shelters on the road, making it difficult for new bus users to know where to stand and for people be protected from rain and heat.
Footpaths are narrow, and there is haphazard parking owing to the shops
Priority Interventions
Redevelopment of the footpaths on the 900m road stretch and 4 main junctions - RT Nagar main road, 9th cross road, 1st main road, and JC main road. Key interventions include:
Streamlining of the carriage way to maximise the footpath, removal of all encroachment by shops, and creation of designated parking zones
Addition of bus shelters and relocation based on the adequacy of the footpath width
Implementation of pedestrian crossing, select signalisation and traffic calming measures at all junctions
Access roads and junctions near schools need to follow IRC 32 - Safe Routes to School guidelines
