Site context
The site is a 1.5km stretch of Immadihalli Main Road, the movement and social spine of an older urban village area. It’s a mixed-use street that is commercialising rapidly, hosting fruit and vegetable vendors, everyday utility shops, eateries, etc. In the west, it connects to Whitefield Main Road, anchoring all the modern office complexes. In the east, it connects to outer-city areas, anchored by an old katte that remains the start point of the Ooru Habba, which takes place on Immadihalli Main Road.
Issues
No proper footpath development has taken place. Drain covers are laid on one side, and the drains on the other have been left open since 2023, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road.
There are also very few trees along the road, and the streetlights are not functional. In addition, the footpath area and larger public space are severely encroached by shops spilling over.
Priority Interventions
Redevelopment of the road, with a focus on footpath and junction improvements, in line with tender standards, can future-proof this street against growing development pressures and create a unique identity. To include:
Parking management
Bus shelters
Street lights
Underground services
Street furniture
Mid-block crossing
2. Reclamation of the public realm by removing encroachments from shops, which can create an opportunity to make a boulevard street.
