Site context

The site is the blue-green edge of Huvinane Lake, along K Channasandra Main Road. While the lake edge is only a 400m stretch, the entire 1.3 km stretch between Bileshivale Main Road and K Channasandra Circle needs to be considered for development. The road was proposed for expansion, but all work has been halted. This neighbourhood has seen significant new housing development, which has led to a sharp increase in traffic.

Issues

There are no footpaths, and the walkway area is filled with construction debris. Heavy traffic, including buses, school buses, and trucks, on this road makes it extremely dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists. There is also no entrance gateway to the lake at this moment. The development of a continuous footpath will also require widening the road. Since the road narrows near the lake edge due to a bridge over the rajakaluve, road widening will need either a wider bridge or a pedestrian overpass.

Priority Interventions

  1. Complete development of the footpath along the 1.3km stretch Removal of all legacy debris, Street lights, Mid-block crossing

  2. Retarring of the pothole-ridden road and line marking.

  3. Evaluation of the lake entrance at K Channasandra Main Road due to a high risk level to potential lake users due to the heavy traffic flow and no space for parking.
