Site context
The junction is located at the intersection of Dasarahalli Main Road and Amruth Nagar Main Road. It experiences very heavy traffic since it connects to Bellary Road (400m away) and is surrounded by several large apartment complexes and offices. In the south, there is a large government site (in front of Brigade Triumph) that is being used as a tipping point for waste vehicles and as a parking area for sanitation trucks. Next to the government site is also a bus stop and a drinking water facility.
Issues
The west and north side of the junction is overtaken by vendors, making it unusable by residents.
The southern side of the junction is extremely filthy and unhygienic. Waste tipping is occurring at the footpath and on the road, forcing people to either avoid walking in this stretch or navigate through traffic. There is also a foul smell of sewage, and residents suspect it is caused by sanitation trucks dumping sewage into roadside drains.
There is no pedestrian safety infrastructure to enable safe crossings, making it particularly dangerous for children, older people, and people with disabilities.
There is also an existing bus bay that is currently underutilised and is blocked by parked vehicles.
Priority Interventions
Either move the tipping point and sanitation vehicles out, or create a safe, purpose-designed space for waste and sanitation vehicles, including a waste transfer point.
Reconstruct the existing footpath and enlarge it to accommodate the high footfall; adding street lights, access ramps, etc.
Redesign the junction to streamline the carriageway and make crossing easier, using all residual space for footpaths and public space.
The public realm can be used to designate vending zones, plant trees, and add social spaces for people moving through the space.
