Site context

The site is a 1 km stretch consisting of CDP Road and New Horizon College Road, which further connects to Outer Ring Road and CDP Road. This area is marked with several large office blocks, institutions and apartment complexes - including Embassy Tech village and Cessna Business park, New Horizon College of Engineering. The road serves lakhs of working people and students, many of whom walk from Outer Ring Road, use public transport, or take company vans/cabs.

Issues

  • The New Horizon College Road is extremely wide, but the footpaths are largely narrow, borken drain covers and littered with garbage. There is a transfer point located on the New Horizon College Road, which is also creating a highly unhygienic environment. There is significant traffic congestion on this stretch.

  • Vans and cabs are parked all along both roads, blocking visual and physical access to the footpaths.

  • CDP road has the same issues of garbage everywhere and open drains. Furthermore, in the absence of public toilets and other proper resting spaces for cab/van drivers, places like Kadabeesanahalli park have been overtaken by vendors and also turned into public urination and garbage-dumping spots.

Priority Interventions

  1. Creation of wide, continuous footpaths with tree lining.

  2. Regulated parking for two-wheelers, cabs, vans, and tractors in collaboration with the large office complexes that use these vehicles.

  3. Relocation and development of a purpose-designed transfer point.

  4. Redevelopment of the Kadubeesanahalli park and the footpath edge.

  5. Development of a Rest Zone - including space for vendors, a public toilet and sitting spaces for gig workers and drivers.

  6. The exploration of a street section to include cycling infrastructure.

  7. Junction improvement to enable safe crossing for pedestrians with crossings, signals, refuge island, and signage for: New Horizon College Road x Doddakanelli-Kadubeesanahalli Road; New Horizon rd x Outer Ring road

To be checked

Widening of the road has stalled and the road is only partially operational. Are there plans to restart this?
