Importance of the site
Potential Problem:
The site is currently being used in an unorganized manner—partly as a garbage dumping ground, partly for vehicle parking, and partly as an informal play area where local children play cricket. Despite its disorganized use, it serves as the only accessible open space in Yelahanka Old Town, highlighting a lack of designated recreational infrastructure in the area. The absence of proper planning not only diminishes the potential of the space but also creates hygiene, safety, and accessibility concerns for the local community
Proposed idea / vision:
Proposed Concept:
To address these issues and maximize the potential of this valuable open space, the proposal is to redevelop it into a well-defined multipurpose sports ground. The design will accommodate various sports and community activities while respecting the site's existing topography. Steps will be introduced to handle the contour level changes and double as informal seating. Additionally, seating inspired by the local cultural form of "katte"—using natural materials like stone and planters—will be integrated around the ground. This approach blends functional design with cultural identity, creating a meaningful and inclusive space for both recreation and community interaction.
