Our proposal will address 1. the edges of the existing Nala to creatively deal with pollution (through planting strategies and other mechanical means, if necessary, 2. the space under the metro line to accommodate recreational amenities for the immediate and wider communities, and 3. the street edge along Sampige Road to accommodate safe and adequate space for pedestrians, hawkers and drop-off areas for public transport, taxis and autos. There is a lot of room here to accommodate much of this, but due to ad hoc development, and insufficient thought given to how both private construction projects and public infrastructure have been designed and built much this large area seems like nowhere land. It is our belief that a sensitive reorganisation of all of the existing users and requirements can give us adequate public open space that the communities can enjoy.
