Importance of the site
1. The spot serves as a food hub for 3000-4000 people per day with 10-12 vendors.
2.The vendors keep changing during the time of the day. There is a food cart vendor in the morning, then a new one occupies for the afternoon and another vendor for the evening.
3. This place serves as a food line for gig workers and other non-collar workers in the vicinity because of the affordability. Being the centre of a major hospital, a 5 star hotel, a 4 star hotel, a PSU establishment and IT offices all around there are very few eatery options for low cost eateries.
4. Being a food line for so many people, it is essential to redevelop this place with clear defined and legal place for food vending.
Proposed idea / vision:
Zoning & Licensing: Formally designate it as a “Food Vending Zone” with rotating vendor permits (morning/afternoon/evening).
Defined Bays/Slots: Paint numbered, demarcated vending bays with simple water drainage and power access. Think plug-and-play vending.
Shared Infrastructure: Provide shared access to water taps, grey water disposal, and power points in a central spine.
Built-in Waste Units: Shared a discreet waste bin (below counter height) with separate wet/dry segregation.
Add surface runoffs along the edge, lined with easy-clean tiles to manage spill and clean-up.
A modular tensile canopy or translucent polycarbonate sheet roofing to allow natural light and shade without darkening the space.
Seating Zones: A few long communal benches (weatherproof, cement or steel frame with wood slats) under shade trees or pergolas.
Water Station: A filtered drinking water tap or bottle refill point for the public and gig workers.
Wall treatment: Easily cleanable wall materials with a mural theme.
