Importance of the site
The proposed site in Yelahanka Old Town is currently being misused as a garbage dump, leading to poor hygiene, underutilized land, and a lack of community engagement. Despite being located in a densely populated part of the town, there is no designated open space or park available for the public, especially for children, families, and pet owners. This lack of accessible green or recreational space limits opportunities for leisure, fitness, and social interaction for the residents of Old Town.
Proposed idea / vision:
To address this issue, the proposal envisions transforming the neglected site into a vibrant public park — the main open space for Yelahanka Old Town. The park is divided into multiple zones: a pet-friendly area, a toddlers' play zone, a dedicated kids’ play area, an outdoor gym, and shaded seating spaces. These zones are connected by a central spine that begins at the main entrance, marked by a prominent statue of Kempegowda, serving as a cultural landmark. The spine leads to the side entrance or exit, which will feature a statue of Puneeth Rajkumar. These two statues act as symbolic gateways, framing the spine and adding cultural and emotional value to the park’s overall experience.
