Importance of the site

There are three major apartment complexes on 47th Cross - Vaishnavi Paradise, Adarsh Gardens and Adarsh Residency, with over 400 flats in total. These apartments are nestled among several independent homes. There are residents of diverse demographics here: working professionals, business people, school and college going students and senior citizens. One major challenge for those who need to commute is that it is very challenging (and often dangerous) to use walking paths to get to the nearby metro station. Even though there are two metro stations within 1 km, most residents have been unable to access them because of unsafe intersections, lack of pedestrian access, garbage and encroachment on the footpaths, etc. This has resulted in many commuters using their vehicles or hailing autos/cabs which results in further congestion in Sangam Circle. Metro commuters have two options today: either walk through the extremely hazardous intersection of Sangam Circle to RV Road Metro Station or dodge the street vendors, traffic, garbage and stench to access Banashankari Metro Station.

Proposed idea / vision:

We are proposing that we create a walking path from either the western end of 47th Cross or the southern end of 1st Main to Banashankari Metro station. There is a small parcel of unused land (likely belonging to BMRCL) that is walled off from these roads. If we are able to provide pedestrian access through this land, it should encourage more people to walk to the Banashankari Metro station. We believe this will be a low cost and effective intervention to improve access to public transit, reduce congestion and improve safety.
