Importance of the site
Our focus is on street vendors & different vending activities, they create bustling hubs of activity, contributing to social cohesion and economic opportunity. In Bengaluru, a city known as India's Silicon Valley, the area of Whitefield exemplifies this blend of tradition and innovation. Originally a colonial settlement, Whitefield has transformed into a thriving IT hub, symbolizing the city's growth. Within Whitefield, street vendors add vibrancy and diversity to the urban landscape, offering everything from local food to artisanal crafts. While they cater to immediate needs, their presence can sometimes cause discomfort.
Problems faced by pedestrians walking on footpaths and vehicular traffic in Whitefield, Bengaluru due to street vendors:
Obstructed footpaths, Traffic congestion, Noise pollution, Garbage and litter, Safety concerns
Problems faced by street vendors on setting up their stalls on road sides:
Lack of legal recognition, Harassment by authorities, Competition from established businesses, Lack of infrastructure, Vulnerability to Sudden Climatic changes/ flooding during rains.
Proposed idea / vision:
We have attached proposal in supporting files w.r.t: Proposal 1 - Use of Space Between Footpath and Property Boundary, Proposal 2 - Weekly Market + Recreational Space, Proposal 3 – An Ideation for Vendors Cart
