Importance of the site

This space is important for our neighbourhood because it has the potential to transform from a neglected, garbage-dumping site into a vibrant community asset that promotes cleanliness, sustainability, and shared responsibility. Currently, the site is a black spot where waste accumulates, negatively impacting the health and aesthetics of our locality. Revitalizing it would not only address the immediate problem of unmanaged waste but also create a model street with having waste experience center, community spaces, and street composting setups that encourage sustainable living.

Proposed idea / vision:

Our vision is to transform this neglected space into a vibrant public area that fosters collective responsibility for waste and the environment through active community participation. By integrating street composting setups and educational spaces (waste experience center), we aim to build on ongoing waste management (small lane compsoting) and sustainability efforts. This space will promote inclusion by engaging local residents and pourakarmikas, improve public health by reducing unmanaged waste, and enhance safety and accessibility with better lighting and pathways. Ultimately, this transformation will shift mindsets from “Not In My Backyard” to shared ownership, serving as a model for sustainable urban living and strengthening community bonds and inspire other to adopt this vision of "Sustainable Steet" model.
