Importance of the site
This site junction is the major node for moving to any side of the city. It has a bus stop as well that makes it a space where the public stops. One of the major landmarks is also the Dr. Rajkumar memorial, which is a bustling place during the weekends. A lot of the crowd gathers, yet there are no proper amenities and infrastructure. If this space is turned into something productive, there would be an opportunity to create a communal space for the neighborhood when we don't have any close-by parks and gathering spaces. Plus, the neighborhood is an industrial area and we have a lot of women coming in for the garment factories, and being the working class women, a space where they could gather and have lunch or meet post work, would empower in many ways.
Proposed idea / vision:
The vision for this place is to transform it into an accessible and welcoming public space for all age groups. Given that the site is located under a flyover, it already benefits from natural shading, making it an ideal location for seating areas where people can rest and gather. Introducing a few nature-based play elements would help activate the space, making it lively while also integrating elements of the environment. Improving the lighting is essential to ensure that the space feels safe and remains usable during the evening hours, addressing current concerns around security. Additionally, incorporating built-in kiosks can serve multiple functions—hosting small markets, supporting local vendors, or being operated in partnership with government cooperatives—thereby turning the space into a hub for community engagement and local economic activity.
